Award Categories

1.   HONG KONG SPORTS STARS AWARDS

Nomination

  • Each national sports association can only nominate ONE athlete
  • Only athletes who have achieved good results in individual event should be nominated. Athletes of team only sport or team event are NOT eligible to be nominated in this category (unless the athlete has achieved good results in individual event as well.)

Votes

All nominees will be voted by the following three parties:

  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors/reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)

Winners

EIGHT nominees with the highest votes will be awarded

* The awardee with the highest votes among the eight winners in the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards category will be awarded “Cathay Pacific Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award”

 

2.   HONG KONG JUNIOR SPORTS STARS AWARDS

Nomination

  • Each national sports association can only nominate ONE athlete aged 18 or below on 31 December 2019 (born on or after 1 January 2001)
  • Only athletes who have achieved good results in individual event should be nominated. Athletes of team only sport or team event are NOT eligible to be nominated in this category (unless the athlete has achieved good results in individual event as well.)

Votes

All nominees will be voted by the following three parties:

  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors/reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)

Winners

SIX nominees with highest votes will be awarded

 

3.   HONG KONG SPORTS STARS AWARD FOR TEAM ONLY SPORT

Nomination

  • Each national sports association can only nominate ONE team
  • Team Only Sport is defined as the sport with no individual event category, in which success depends on the interaction and interdependence of the whole team during the competition
  • Only the following national sports associations are eligible to submit nomination for this award:
    • Hong Kong Baseball Association Limited
    • Hong Kong Basketball Association
    • Hong Kong Canoe Union (Canoe Polo)
    • Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Dragon and Lion Dance Association Ltd. (Dragon and Lion Dance)
    • Cricket Hong Kong
    • Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association
    • The Hong Kong Football Association Limited
    • Hong Kong, China Gateball Association Company Limited
    • Handball Association of Hong Kong, China Limited
    • The Hong Kong Hockey Association
    • Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association Limited
    • Hong Kong China Korfball Association
    • Hong Kong Lacrosse Association Limited
    • Hong Kong Little League Limited
    • Hong Kong Miniature Football Association
    • Hong Kong Netball Association
    • Hong Kong Federation of Roller Sports Limited (Inline Hockey)
    • Hong Kong Rugby Union
    • Hong Kong Softball Association
    • Hong Kong Tug of War Association
    • Hong Kong Ultimate Players Association
    • Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association (Water Polo)
    • Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China Limited (Indoor Volleyball)

Votes

All nominated teams will be voted by the following three parties:

  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors/reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)

Winner

THE TEAM with highest votes will be awarded

 

4.   HONG KONG SPORTS STARS AWARDS FOR TEAM EVENT

Nomination

  • Each national sports association can only nominate ONE team
  • Team Event is defined as different forms of combination of an individual sport (e.g. double, relay or team)

Votes

All nominated teams will be voted by the following three parties:

  1. Judging Panel (Voting Percentage: 60%)
  2. Local sports editors/reporters (Voting Percentage: 20%)
  3. Public (Voting Percentage: 20%)

Winners

THE THREE TEAMS with highest votes will be awarded

 

5.   HONG KONG MOST PROMISING SPORTS STARS AWARDS

Nomination

  • Each national sports association can only nominate ONE athlete
  • There is no age limit for this category
  • Past winners of any categories of this Awards since 1986 are not eligible to be nominated for this category
  • Only athletes who have achieved good results in individual event in the past three years (2017-2019) should be nominated. Athletes of team only sport or team event are NOT eligible to be nominated in this category (unless the athlete has achieved good results in individual event as well.)
  • Current nominees of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards, Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport and Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event are not eligible to be nominated for this category

Votes

All nominees will be voted by the Judging Panel only

Winners

FOUR nominees with highest votes will be awarded

 

6.   HONG KONG SPORTS STARS BREAKTHROUGH OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Nomination

  • Each national sports association can only nominate either ONE athlete or ONE team only sport or ONE team event or ONE National Sports Association (NSA).
  • The Award will be sporting achievement related, the breakthrough should be made in a local or international organization recognized sporting event in the awarding year, and may not be a sport competition
  • The nominee should produce a significant step-up in class to a considerably higher level of sporting achievement, e.g. break record, make history etc within the Award Period.
  • There is no age limit for this category
  • Current nominee of the Hong Kong Most Promising Sports Stars Awards is NOT eligible to be nominated for this category

Votes

All nominees will be deliberated and selected by the Judging Panel only

*If no appropriate nominee could be selected by the Judging Panel, there will be no awardee for Hong Kong Sports Stars Breakthrough of the Year Awards.

Winner

TWO nominee or nominated teams or NSA will be awarded
